Ismail Tsieprati

Beloved by many, Ismail Tsieprati lived a long and happy life with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Although the average life expectancy of a person with ALS is two to five years from the date of diagnosis, Ismail lived with ALS for 33 years after the date of his own diagnosis and more than 50 years from the onset of his first symptoms.

Ismail was a former film and video editor, producer, director, and writer with more than 25 years of experience in the film and video business. He wrote many screenplays and had extensive educational film credits. In 2003, Ismail was presented with the ALS March of Faces Vice President’s ALS Awareness and Advocacy Award for his outstanding achievements in raising public awareness of ALS. He was also a recipient of a 2017 Walk Hero Award at the 14th Annual Ventura/Santa Barbara County Walk to Defeat ALS.

Although he became totally paralyzed and no longer able to speak or write, Ismail communicated by blinking his eyes to spell out sentences one letter at a time. Using this method, he wrote posts and blogs for social media and collaborated with Cheryl on musical theatre and other writing projects, including One Blink at a Time, a book he and Cheryl wrote together about how they dealt with their daily challenges living for 30 years with ALS. Ismail wrote his chapters by spelling them out with eye blink, letter by letter, word by word.

Co-Author of One Blink at a Time Cheryl Tsieprati will speak on the cruise about her amazing 33 years of life and love while her husband lived life with his ALS diagnosis.

Suzanne Klasen met Cheryl when Cheryl was the featured speaker at her weekly Kiwanis Club meeting in Simi Valley. They soon found themselves working together on projects for the Simi Valley chamber of commerce and formed a special friendship. Suzanne, as owner of her CruiseOne travel agency was super active in the community of Simi Valley at charitable functions and other community events, sometimes sharing her hobby as a Liza Minnelli tribute artist. Cheryl asked Suzanne if she would help raise funds for the local ALS Chapter with a charity show at a local restaurant. These fun events not only provided an entertaining show for the guests but also raised awareness and funds in support of ALS patients and their families. 

Suzanne and Cheryl had an idea to take these fundraising efforts to the next level and decided to host a cruise together combining the fun of the Liza Minnelli show and the fundraising power of the Celebrity Cruises Fund Raising Program. 

Not only will we have Suzanne’s performance in her Liza tribute show, but we will also have themed events celebrating the legendary entertainer’s remarkable career including Disco Parties, Trivia and a 1920’s Cabaret themed event.
