You’ll delight in Sicily’s treasures—its heritage, its cuisine, its natural beauty, and the hospitality of the locals. We’ll visit principal sites of eastern Sicily while basing ourselves in a town of 3000 people as they celebrate their patroness Santa Margherita. Arrival at Catania Airport

Our tour officially starts on Monday, July 13. Please note that international flights for Europe and Italy depart the night before from the United States. Please plan accordingly.

Flights are not included in the price of this tour; however, Experience Sicily can recommend to you flights and carriers that offer competitive prices and convenient flight routes. Please contact us prior to making your reservations.

Group Transfer from Catania Fontarossa Airport to Licodia Eubea

Upon arrival, our private air conditioned coach will take you to your various accommodations for the tour.

Check in at Bed & Breakfast or Home of a Licodia Eubea resident.

You will stay in a cozy bed & breakfast or in a holiday apartment offered by locals. All accommodations are within walking distance of the center of town. We conviene from breakfast each morning at one of the frequented coffee bars, where the proprietors offer us a breakfast buffet. 

Welcome dinner with the full group at a local trattoria.

We'll celebrate our arrival in Sicily with a meal of traditional, seasonal cuisine. The mayor of Licodia Eubea may come to welcome us!

Delightful Dairy Visit and Meet the Locals

Early this morning we'll witness the cheese making process and meet our hosts in Licodia Eubea.

We'll spend most of today in Licodia Eubea and its environs meeting our hosts and learning about life in a Sicilian village today and yesterday. This is a day hard to explain--one thing that is for sure, your spirit will be inspired by all you encounter!

Saturday Jul 18

Departure for Siracusa

In our private coach, we will travel to the ancient Greek and now baroque metropolis of Siracusa, featuring the charming island of Ortigia.

Tour "Neapolis" Archeological Park

In the morning, our private guide will take us through the UNESCO designated "Neapolis" Archaeological Park featuring Siracusa's world-renowned ancient Greek theater and the "Ear of Dionysus."

Time on your own in Siracusa's historic center Ortigia

You will have time on your own to visit the city's baroque Duomo (formally a temple to Athena), the gallery featuring Caravaggio's breathtaking “Seppellimento di Santa Lucia,” or “Burial of Saint Lucia” painting, and the Temple of Apollo (to name a few highlights). Lunch is on your own.

Sunset Dinner on the Sea

For dinner, as a group we will dine with the waves lapping at our heels while the sun sets over the enchanting fishing village of Marzamemi.

Sunday Jul 19

Hands-On Cooking Lesson of Typical Dishes

Be prepared to get your hands covered in flour! With a local mamma, we're going to make fresh pasta, sauce, and more during a hands-on cooking lesson, after which, we'll eat the fruits of our labor for lunch.

Frolic in the Sea

This afternoon we'll head to Sicily's south coast, where we'll have time to enjoy the turquoise blue sea and golden sandy beach.

Evening Free to Explore the Festivities in Licodia Eubea

Events leading up to the celebration of Licodia Eubea's patroness, Santa Margherita, will entertain you this evening. Join the fun! Dinner on your own.

Monday Jul 20

Half-Day Volcano Adventure

A nature-powered day on Mount Etna, Europe's largest, most-active volcano will stimulate your senses with beautiful landscapes, dark lava caves, and fascinating natural history. We'll have lunch as a group at a picnic spot in the forest.

Evening on Own for the Feast and Procession of Santa Margherita

This evening is the height of the annual celebration in Licodia Eubea, recognizing its patroness Santa Margherita. A solemn procession of the saint's relics is followed by a fireworks display that brings the entire community together. We'll celebrate alongside the town's citizens.

Celebrate the Feast of Santa Margherita

With our new friends in Licodia Eubea, we'll recognize their patroness with concerts and other events in the town center that lead up to tomorrow's sacred procession.

Slow morning to relax after last evening's festivities.

Today we'll travel to the tantalizing town of Taormina. You'll have time on your own to visit the Teatro Antico and explore, shop, dine, and savor the beauty of this community above the Ionian Sea. Lunch will be on your own during your visit.

Lunch as a group at a Local Trattoria in Piazza Armerina

Learn How the Romans Did It

Today we'll travel to Piazza Armerina to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site the Roman Villa of Casale, a 4th century AD Roman plantation featuring a treasure of 4000 square meters, or 43,055 square feet, of mosaic scenes, including the renowned “Bikini Girls.”

The City of Ceramics: Caltagirone

This afternoon, you'll have time on your own for shopping in Caltagirone, a beautiful baroque town that is home to some of Sicily's most prolific ceramic artists.

Winery Tour and Tasting

This afternoon we'll visit an exquisite winery, where we'll learn about the wine making process and enjoy a dinner pairing.

Sicily's Baroque Gems

We'll have a later start today. In the late morning, we'll visit Ragusa with a local guide who will impart the history of the beautiful town to us. For lunch we'll enjoy traditional specialties of the region in Modica, followed by a demonstration of how the sweet shops make Modican chocolate, a recipe particular to this area. Of course, you'll have to taste it too... and bring a few bars home for your friends and family.

  • The tour officially begins with your transfer from Fontanarossa Airport in Catania on Thursday, July 16, 2020 and officially ends with a group transfer to Fontanarossa Airport in Catania on Saturday, July 25, 2020.
  • Flights from the U.S. will depart the night before our tour begins (on July 15, 2020) and will arrive the morning or early afternoon of July 16, 2020. Our first group event will be meeting at Fontanarossa Airport in Catania on July 16, 2020. Please plan accordingly. The official conclusion of our tour on July 25, 2020 is with check-out of your Bed & Breakfast in Licodia Eubea and a group transfer to Catania Fontanarossa Airport.
  • The boutique nature of this itinerary means that it is subject to change as we get closer to departure. Our objective is to include activities and events that are tailored to our guests’ interests. Therefore, in most cases, changes will enhance your experience, as it is our mission to provide you with the most memorable experience in Sicily.
  • The trip price is for double occupancy and does not include international airfare. There is a single supplement of $400.
  • Complete details about our accommodations will be released once you have paid in full. All information will be emailed to you approximately 30 days before departure.
  • Tour price includes costs for all excursions, planned entertainment and ticket prices, tour transportation, and all but six meals (consult day to day description for details).
  • Tour price does not include international airfare, travel insurance, mini-bar purchases, room service, or personal purchases and gifts.
  • The meals included in the tour price include 2 glasses of wine and/or soft drinks per meal. If you wish to enjoy additional wine or other alcoholic beverages beyond this allotment, you are welcome to purchase them separately from the group’s bill.
  • The cost of this tour does not include travel insurance; however, it is highly recommended that you purchase a comprehensive plan to cover the costs of your airfare, tour, loss of luggage, and medical expenses. We can provide you with competitive quotations from of providers of travel insurance. Please ask! 
  • Gratuities are included. Any additional recognition of our drivers, hosts, and guides is at your discretion.
  • Sicily is a large region that requires significant driving. It is also very mountainous and, as a result, has many winding roads. We have designed the itinerary to break up the driving as much as possible, but on some days, long drives will be necessary. If you suffer from motion sickness, please bring motion-sickness medication with you. Please alert Allison Scola as to what will make you most comfortable.
  • You must be in good physical health to enjoy this tour. Although we will not be engaging in physically rigorous excursions, there is a significant amount of walking on various surfaces and types of terrain as well as standing for extended periods of time, especially at archaeological sites.
  • Please inform us in advance regarding any dietary restrictions, food allergies, and other personal concerns.
  • Photographs or, in some cases, videos of Participants of Experience Sicily may be used for educational and promotional purposes by Experience Sicily. Participants expressly consent to this manner of promotional use when reservations are completed.
  • Experience Sicily appreciates constructive criticism and feedback. If you have any suggestions or issues while on the tour, please approach Allison Scola privately to discuss thoughts and solutions.


A deposit of $1,000 per person (the “Deposit”), payable to Experience Sicily, of which $350 is non-refundable for administrative fees, is required at the time of the submission of the reservation application for the program (hereinafter, “the Program”) for each participant (“Participant”). Final payment, by check or wire transfer, must be received 120 days prior to departure.
