We welcome knitters who are new to Åsa Tricosa's innovative Ziggurats knitting method, as well as those who are already knowledgeable with her approach.
We’ll begin our trip with four days in Søro, where Åsa lives just outside of Copenhagen.
Participate in 12 hrs of group workshop and 1/1 coaching sessions. Learn or refine the skills to create your own custom-fitted sweater through simple or more challenging techniques. And take advantage of this rare look at Åsa’s knitting “secrets” as well has her special finishing techniques.
Enjoy knitting and learning as Åsa blends her clever sense of humor and joy of the craft throughout every lesson.
Spend time with Åsa during a visit to her studio where we'll enjoy afternoon nibbles, knit together, and learn more about her design inspiration and process. And you'll find out what we already know – along with being an amazing designer, Åsa is an incredibly lovely person.
Our trip begins with four days in Søro, just outside of Copenhagen. Our time there will include Ziggurats workshops and excursions - to a local spinnery (during lambing season!), to several of Åsa’s favorite spots including a nearby yarn shop, and opportunities to visit local attractions.
From Søro, we’ll travel north with a short stop in Aarhus where we’ll enjoy a city tour, visit the ARoS museum and find some local yarn shops. We’ll settle into our hotel in downtown Aalborg, The Radisson Blu Limfjord. From here we will traverse to the northern most point in Denmark to Skagen where two seas meet – the Skagerak and Kattegat. We’ll visit Isager Yarn in Bindslev for a workshop with Helga Isager, a relaxed lunch and an opportunity to shop their lovely assortment of yarns.
The last three days of our trip will take us to the Kokkedal Slot (or castle), a mansion-like/spa northeast of Copenhagen. We’ll explore the Hans Christian Andersen Museum, the well-known Louisiana Museum of Modern Art Art. We'll spend our final day touring Copenhagen for a Yarn Culture-curated shop crawl including yarn, craft, and other specialty shops. And we'll reconnect with Åsa for 1/1 sessions for knitters.
Throughout the trip there will be ample opportunity to admire and buy yarn, eat good food and explore, both with the group and on your own.
Åsa Söderman—known in the knitting world as Åsa Tricosa—is a self-proclaimed “lazy knitter who created the Ziggurats technique to avoid weaving ends.”
Don’t let this humorous description fool you. Åsa’s innovative Ziggurats method combines unique sweater construction, interesting stitch patterns, playful color elements, and detailed finishing techniques that result in custom-fitted, detailed garments that will become staples in your hand knit wardrobe.
Åsa introduced the art of knitting beautiful top-down sweaters using the Ziggurat technique in her 2018 book, Ziggurats 16 Elegantly Seamless Knits. Skillfully created to minimize cutting and joining skeins and to maximize flow and seamless knitting, the Ziggurat method is clever, addictive, and produces well-fitting, beautifully finished sweaters.
Åsa has more than 125 designs to her credit with her most recent collection completed last year. The 2021 Jubilæum Collection celebrates 10 years of Ziggurating and a decade of Åsa Tricosa designs.
Born and raised in Sweden, Åsa now lives in Denmark after also living in the US, UK, Germany, and Scotland.
