This program is the ultimate hybrid of horseback and driving safari, thoughtfully designed to highlight some of Tanzania's most iconic parks and to deliver outstanding wildlife viewing.
Safari Portion: Following the horseback portion, you will embark on an incredible jeep safari visiting some of the most iconic national parks on Tanzania's northern circuit. The program visits Ngorongoro Crater, with two game drives on the crater floor, the quieter Southern Serengeti, and the Central Serengeti, world-renowned for its wildlife viewing.
Horseback Portion: Visits Arusha National Park, where montane forest shelters blue monkeys and black-and-white colobus, grassy hills around the Momela Lakes are home to giraffe, zebra and waterbuck, and the shallows are sometimes tinged pink with flamingos. Mount Meru, Africa's fifth-highest peak at 4,566 metres (14,980 feet), dominates the horizon, with Kilimanjaro often visible at dawn and dusk.
Please note: Riders MUST be strong intermediate riders capable of riding at a walk/trot/canter in open areas - riders should be able to ride a posting trot and canter in a two-point/jockey position. Note that the majority of horses are polo horses and have a preference for neck reining/one-hand riding or riding with a bridge rein. Riders unable to keep up with the group or unable to follow the guidelines can opt for jeep/non-horseback game drives.
Saddle Days: 4 Saddle Days / 3 Nights (~6 rides, 3–4 hours per ride)
Horseback Portion Accommodation: The initial night is at Dolly Estate Lodge; the following two nights are in 4 x 4 metre mobile tents with single cots (double occupancy), a bucket shower and a short-drop toilet. Full board meals and a selection of locally sourced alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Recommended Arrival: We recommend arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) in the morning of Day 1 or the night prior. Additional nights at a hotel near the airport can be arranged.
