Golf in the UK’s capital, say what? Well, as you can imagine, London is a large city and is comprised on many townships and suburbs which is where you will find some of England’s best private courses. Unlike it is here in the States where private courses limit access for non-member play (must be accompanied by a member or introduction from a member), private clubs in the UK do allow access, albeit limited depending on the club’s policies.
London is not unlike New York City where top executives commute to their workplaces but live out in the quieter suburbs to escape the rat race. Needing a place to play their golf, it is not a surprise that it is in these suburbs where you will find some of London’s better known clubs… Wentworth, Sunningdale and Walton Heath to name a few! You also have other clubs that are known more for their social membership status that the golf itself, but course such as Stoke Park and The Grove are both great places play and to stay.
All in all, London offers the golfer some excellent golf away from the popular links tracks dotted around the coastlines of the UK. You also have one of the most vibrant cities in the world to act as your 19th hole making it a unique experience… So, what do you say, Big Ben anyone?
