St. Andrews is renowned, the world over, as the birthplace of golf, which has been played here for over 400 years. Few can fail to be awed by the sense of history, as they view the hallowed links of the Old Course, host of the Open on numerous occasions.
Synonymous with the game of golf, this historic town, with its equally ancient university boasts a further three courses of championship standard - the New, the Jubilee and the Castle - whilst the Eden and Strathtyrum offer a less challenging, but none the less enjoyable 18 holes of golf.
Heading down the coast you will first find the Torrance and Kittocks courses at Fairmont St Andrews, continuing you will reach the superb Kingsbarns. The addition of Dumbarnie Links in 2020 makes this area truly vacation heaven for all golfers.
North of the river lies a further golfing paradise of some 25 courses, centred on the testing Championship links of Carnoustie, where the return of the Open in 1999 resulted in one of the most memorable finales to date.
