“The Afropop team took us on a mind-blowing, unparalleled journey into music, culture, history and adventure!”

Sam, 2024 Afropop Tanzania Tour Participant

Hot on the heels of our culturally immersive visit to Tanzania and Zanzibar in February 2024, we’re planning another for 2025. A common comment from 2024 participants was “experience of a lifetime!” So we’re pleased to invite you to join us for our encore February 4 -18, 2025. You’ll be joining our Peabody Award-winning public radio team of Afropop Worldwide to experience African music and culture as you never have before.

The twin pillars of our tour in 2025 will once again be an insider’s experience of the lively musical city of Dar es Salaam and enjoying the revelatory Sauti za Busara, “Sounds of Wisdom” Festival in Stone Town on the beautiful island of Zanzibar. See more details below about Dar and the festival.

Most of our 2024 participants opted to add on our magnificant safari to Tanzania’s world-famous game parks where we experienced wild elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions, antelope, warthogs, birds, and lots more up close and personal.

You can hear the sounds of Dar Es Salaam on Afropop Worldwide’s program Taking the Pulse in Dar Es Salaam, and sample sounds and stories from the Sauti za Busara here

In between the city and the festival, we’ll luxuriate with three relaxing days at the Kendwa Rocks Beach Resort in northern Zanzibar, including swimming in turquoise waters, snorkeling and a sunset sail on a traditional dhow boat.

Hospitality is a Tanzanian national ethic, so expect great pleasure in hanging out and meeting locals in all destinations. Leaders of the creative industries will join us for dinners. Crime is low in Dar and Zanzibar, and as we move with our local friends, you will always feel safe and welcomed. Many of our Afropop travelers become lifelong friends – the bond is strong!

In terms of comfort, we’ve got you covered too. Almost all of our 2024 Tanzania Afropop travelers gave us top ratings - 5 out of 5 - for hotels, meals, transport, local guides and tour co-leaders.

As festival-founder Yusuf Mahmoud says, "The best place to experience African music is under African skies." We know you will agree.

We can't wait to welcome you along on this exciting adventure!
