Destinations: Chennai, Port Blair, Great Nicobar, Andaman
Duration: 15 Nights & 16 Days
Best Season: November to May
Tour Code: 821-MP
Description:
While the Andaman Islands of India are often visited by birdwatchers searching for endemics, it is only in recent years that the Indian government has issued permits for those visiting from outside India.
This special exploratory tour concentrates on the Nicobar Islands, Great Nicobar in particular. 540 km by sea from Port Blair, the island of Great Nicobar is largely unexplored from a birdwatching perspective.
The key attractions of these islands are the additional endemic bird species, namely Nicobar Megapode, Great Nicobar Serpent Eagle, Nicobar Sparrowhawk, Nicobar Imperial Pigeon, Nicobar Parakeet, Nicobar Jungle Flycatcher, Nicobar Scops Owl and Nicobar Bulbul, plus the newly discovered and as yet undescribed ‘Great Nicobar Crake’.
Subject to weather conditions, the tour starts by sailing to Great Nicobar as soon as possible, allowing a contingency for our return sailing being delayed or cancelled!
In addition, we will also attempt to arrange a day trip by boat to visit the remote Narcondam Island, famous for the endemic Narcondam Hornbill. Although we will not be allowed to land on the island, the hornbills are normally easily visible in the treetops, and in flight, from the boat.
Join this unique exploratory adventure and get the chance to go birding in places few have gone before!
