"Silent Night" (German: "Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht") is a popular Christmas carol, composed in 1818 in Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria. It was declared as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2011. The song was first recorded in 1905 and has remained a popular success, appearing in films and multiple successful recordings, as well as being quoted in other musical compositions. It is the world's most recorded Christmas song, with more than 137,000 known recordings.

However hardly anyone questions about its composes Franz Xaver Gruber (lyrics) and Joseph Mohr (melody). Who are they? Under which circumstances did they compose the song? What was Salzburg 1818?

Let's go on a journey, listen, spot and explore the whole story alive. At the same time you will be enjoy the unique combination of the nature and culture of Austria - the perhaps best combination on this planet described by Lonely Planet.
